Womadelaide 2010 LIVE!

The Team

Deborah Welch – Broadcast producer

Deb is the Manager of Radio Adelaide, and also President of the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia.  Involved in community broadcasting since the mid 80’s, this is her 9th Womadelaide as Broadcast Producer.  She thinks.

Don Balaz – Technical Coordinator

Don juggles his usual working at  Radio Adelaide, travelling, and questionable samba dancing with laptops, digital recorders, microphones, cables, extension cords, power boards…about 100 items all up to make sure that all will be working on that day. Is Don Is Good!

Jonathan Brown – Online Producer + Panel Operator

Womadelaide 2010 will be Jonathan’s fourth year on the Womadelaide LIVE! team. Jonathan is glad to be the only team member officially allowed to be distracted by Youtube, Twitter, Facebook, Myspace…

Nicole Stevens – Online Producer

Nicole is a fresh faced and exciting new addition to the team, making sure that womadelaidelive.com is THE place to go to experience Womadelaide (except of course for actually being there!)

Systa BB – Presenter/Blogger

For the past 18 years, Systa bb has been broadcasting, writing, DJing and curating mayhem in this curiously named yard o World Music. As a publicist she shouts loud to get bands and DJs heard and generally irritates the hell out o people until they listen. Formerly host of Planetary Chaos on PBS, she now is part o the RRR tribe.

Roger Holdsworth – Presenter/Blogger

Roger has presented the Global Village program on PBS-FM in Melbourne since 1989 (and other shows before that). He takes an inclusive view of ‘worldwide music’ and has been listening to the world since way before ‘world music’ – but still gets cranky about the hegemony of pop, rock and 4:4 beats.

Michelle Smith – Presenter/Blogger

Michelle has been walking on the percussive side for the past three years, with her weekly program, Rhythm Stick on Radio Adelaide. She can’t go past a pair of bongos without going weak in the knees, not to mention what happens when around a set of tabla. She’s been involved with Womadelaide in a range of guises for years, and with each festival she feels she’s died again and gone to music heaven.

Seth Jordan – Presenter/Blogger

Presenter of Community Radio Network programs Radio Babylon &The Tiki Lounge, Seth took a break from the airwaves in ‘08, He reviews World music for ABC’s Limelight magazine and Songlines(UK). One of Womadelaide’s MCs, Seth brings back news from the stages and interviews with some of the headliners.

Tara Egan – Production Team

Tara has been a part of the Radio Adelaide extended family for four years now, dabbling  in student radio, current affairs and presenting The Range – Radio Adelaide’s drive time alternative.  She loves music in all its varieties and is still trying to perfect her tambourine playing so she can one day hit the big time as a solo instrumental artist.  She also likes to riverdance at bus stops.  This is her first time joining the Womad LIVE! Team and she can’t wait to visit so many countries and cultures without even buying a plane ticket!

Anthony Gibbs – IT Extraordinaire

With thoughts at a very young age of being a Brain Surgeon, then changing to Architecture, then Graphic Design and finally deciding on a career with Computers, Radio Adelaide’s IT Coordinator seems to have made the right choice. Born in the 70’s, Anthony had a computer at home while still in primary school and been “playing” around with them ever since.

Tom Changarathil – Production Team

Tom is a true Indian; he likes his food & music spicy, hot and varied.
He trips on R.D. Burman (Bollywood) and believes that Qawwalis & Psychedelic Rock go well with Scotch. Is Tenor with a Church Choir.  Speaks Hindi and English for starters.  TV has lost him, nearly & Radio has found him. He likes a lot of blah..blah
 Listens to radio 24/7…well almost.

manuel-otero

Manuel Otero – Visuals Coordinator

From Venezuela with energy! I have 15 years of experience in radio, TV, live events and multimedia. I’m eager to exercise my skills and learn what happens in the Womadelaide 2010 team of marvellous people.

Ian Newton – Production Team

Phil Van Hout – Production Team

Alex McFarlane – Production Team

Alex has only missed one Womadelaide.  That was the first one.  Since then he has been a punter, a barperson, a stage hand, a member of the broadcast team, a performer and has even dressed up as a faerie and sold silver streamers.  He will stop at nothing to be at Womad, the best weekend of the year.  Alex is the founder and coordinator of The Piping Shrike Hour, a Radio Adelaide program that focuses on South Australian performers and composers of classical, jazz, experimental and basically anything that doesn’t really fit into a genre.

Geoff Peake – Production Team

Studio and Satellite

sokvari-stephen_w1

At each station around the country we must thank the Studio Officers who are making sure Womadelaide 2010 LIVE! gets from Botanic Park to to your radio.  At host station Radio Adelaide the silent but essential man is  Steve Sokvari. You can give him a call on 08 8303 5000 and let them know how it’s sounding.

martin_w1benf_w1

In Sydney, Ben Feggan and Martin Walters are the essential humans behind the technology – our broadcast signal goes from Botanic Park to the community radio satellite service – CRN –  in Sydney, then out to all community radio stations by satellite, then transmitted by them to you.  Easy!
